PRESS CONFERENCE FOR KURT VONNEGUT, TUESDAY, SEPT. 4, 6 P.M.
NORTH ROOM, (First floor) IOWA MEMORIAL UNION

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A press conference for writer and UI Writers' Workshop lecturer Kurt Vonnegut will be held at 6 p.m. in the North Room (First floor) of the Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa. The press conference is open to all media.

Vonnegut will present his lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the IMU. Doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m. He is visiting the campus as a guest of the UI Lecture Committee, which throughout the 2001-02 academic year will feature a series of distinguished people who will give free, public lectures to the UI community.

Vonnegut has published scores of short stories, including 17 novels and assorted works of nonfiction. His fame, wit and ability as a writer to create plots and characters with imaginative eccentricity and verve have inspired an international readership. His latest work, "Bagombo Snuff Box," contains 23 previously uncollected short stories.
