McCarron to deliver Visiting Professor of Nutrition Lecture Oct. 24
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A research specialist with expertise on the link between
low calcium intake and high blood pressure will deliver the annual Visiting
Professor of Nutrition Lecture at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
David McCarron, M.D., professor of medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University
in Portland, Ore., will discuss "Diet and Blood Pressure The Paradigm
Shift" during his presentations. McCarron will address medical faculty,
dietitians and the general public at 9 a.m. in the Bean Conference Room, located
in SE301 GH. His presentation to first-year medical students will take place
at 11:30 a.m. in the Medical Alumni Auditorium.
For more than 20 years, McCarron has directed a multidisciplinary research
program, including the NIH Clinical Nutrition Research Unit, at Oregon, investigating
blood pressure regulation and the role of dietary nutrients in hypertension
in human, animal tissue and cellular studies. He has authored approximately
250 medical journal articles, editorials and reviews, and he has also presented
or authored more than 400 scientific papers at national and international
