UI Research Foundation appoints Sunleaf as licensing associate
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Zev Sunleaf has been named to the staff of the University
of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF) as a licensing associate who will help
manage intellectual property created by UI faculty and staff.
Sunleaf will work with current UIRF staff to gather and evaluate inventions
and disclosures from University researchers, and then work with off-campus
attorneys to coordinate the filing of patent applications on selected inventions.
Additionally, he will negotiate agreements with corporate partners interested
in making commercial use of UI inventions.
Sunleaf's appointment took effect July 16.
"I am happy to be here, working with a number of scientists and technologies
at the university," Sunleaf said.
The position was added to keep pace with the increasing number of patents
and patent applications generated from UI research.
"We're delighted to have been able to engage a professional with Zev's
level of experience. He's been with us since July and already has been able
to help us increase our level of service to UI researchers and to our corporate
counterparts," said Bruce Wheaton, UIRF executive director.
Sunleaf managed intellectual property as vice president of Caviforce Technologies
and Solltech, Inc. before joining the UIRF. The biomedical and bio-agricultural
company is located in the UI Technology Innovation Center, the UI business
incubator. Sunleaf, of Coralville, has a bachelor's degree in business administration
from the UI.
The UIRF is a nonprofit corporation established in 1975 to manage intellectual
property arising from UI research.
