Australian labor historian to speak at UI Oct. 16
Labor historian Greg Patmore will speak at the University of Iowa about
workplace democracy on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. in 112 Macbride Hall. His
lecture is entitled "Employee Representation Plans in North America and Australia,
1915-1935: An Employer Response to Workplace Democracy."
Patmore is a professor in the department of work and organizational studies
at the University of Sydney, Australia, and the editor of the Australian journal
"Labour History." His research interests are labor history, comparative labor
history, employee representation and trade unionism in the steel industry
in Australia and North America, and the impact of industrialization and deindustrialization
on regional economies.
His visit to the UI is sponsored by the department of history in the
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the department of management and organizations
in the Tippie College of Business, and the UI Labor Center.
