UI to host International Day Conference Wednesday

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will host the 5th Annual International Day Conference for middle and high school students Wednesday, Nov. 7 in the Iowa Memorial Union.

The theme of this year's conference is international human rights of youth, which is also the subject of the day's keynote speech by Dr. Margaret Stimmann Branson, associate director of the Center for Civic Education in Calabasa, Calif.

Students and teachers from across Iowa are invited to take part in the free event. During the conference, participants break into groups to discuss human rights issues and develop plans for bringing what they learn back to their schools and classrooms.

The conference is open to all middle and high school students and their teachers, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required because there is limited space.

For more information, educators may contact Margaret Evans in the UI College of Education at (319) 335-6289, or via email at margaret-evans@uiowa.edu.
