Business founders speak Nov. 12 at Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Founders of three entrepreneurial Iowa companies will
share their business experiences Monday, Nov. 12 as part of the Sandage Entrepreneurial
Speaker Series at the Pappajohn Business Building.
The University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, the Sandage
Charitable Trust and the UI Small Business Development Center are sponsoring
the program, which is free and open to the public. Doors open for the program
at 6 p.m. in the Buchanan Auditorium, Room W10 in the Pappajohn Business Building,
followed by the presentations at 6:30 p.m. and a reception. It features speakers
Kathryn Dickel, Heather Hansen, Jim Griffin and B.J. Do, who will discuss
the challenges entrepreneurial new business ventures face today.
Kathryn Dickel and Heather Hansen are co-owners of Swaelu Web Design Cooperative,
a full service web development company specializing in the front-end services
of design, content, functionality, and management. Swaelu is based in Des
Moines with a cooperative of freelance professionals working with them from
around the country.
"An Entrepreneur's Flight Plan" is the title of the presentation
of Jim Griffin, executive vice president of NEXIQ Technologies. He founded
a local software company, Diversified Software Industries (DSI) in 1996. Recently,
NEXIQ Technologies, a leading company in vehicle diagnostic solutions, acquired
DSI. As executive vice president, Griffin is responsible for positioning the
company as a leading provider of telematics and wireless diagnostic solutions.
B.J. Do received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the UI College
Do and his partners started their Urbandale business in 1995 as an e-business
products and services company. The corporate culture of ABC Virtual Communications,
Inc. personifies the importance of fundamental values and principles to one's
