John Keller to serve as dean of UI Graduate College
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- John Keller will continue to serve as interim dean of
the University of Iowa Graduate College for the immediate future. Keller has
served as interim dean since June 2000.
A search for a new graduate dean has been under way since July, 2000, and
several candidates were interviewed in April, but no recommendation for an
appointee emerged from the process, according to UI Provost Jon Whitmore.
"The search committee has concluded that while some outstanding candidates
were identified and interviewed, they have not been able to find the exact
fit we want for our new graduate dean," Whitmore says. "These things
happen. The search committee worked long and hard and should be commended
for their good effort. It's simply a case of not finding the right person.
We will initiate a new search as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are
grateful to John Keller for his willingness to assume the responsibilities
for another year while we mount a new search. Keller has been a wonderful
interim dean, and I am very pleased that he is willing to continue to serve
in this vital capacity for another year."
Keller, who is professor and director of biomaterials research and of the
Dental Student Research Program in the UI College of Dentistry, was named
associate dean of the Graduate College in September 2000.
