UI Health Care to continue specialty outreach services in Ottumwa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Health Care physicians will continue to provide specialty outreach services in Ottumwa, despite the pending closure of UI Family Care-Ottumwa.

University of Iowa Community Medical Services (UICMS) recently announced plans to close its primary care clinic in Ottumwa on May 25. Patients who receive care at UI Family Care-Ottumwa received letters informing them of the decision to close the clinic and are being assisted in transferring their care to other physicians. UICMS operates a network of primary care clinics located throughout eastern and central Iowa.

Following the decision to close UI Family Care-Ottumwa, patients who receive outreach specialty care in Ottumwa -- including cardiology, dermatology, pulmonology and rheumatology services -- have made inquiries about those services, primarily because those special outreach clinics are held in the same building that houses the UICMS primary care clinic. Those special outreach services are not affected by the planned closing of the family care clinic.

The specialized outreach clinics will continue to be offered in the same building, located at 931 Pennsylvania Avenue. Cardiology clinics are currently offered on three Tuesdays each month. Pulmonary services will continue to be offered four Wednesdays per month. Dermatology specialists are currently scheduled at this location in Ottumwa on the first and third Mondays of each month. The special rheumatology clinics are planned for the first and second Thursday of every month. Patients who receive care in specialty outreach clinics will be notified if any changes in the schedule listed above occur.
