UI Alumni Reunion for classes 1961, 1956, 1951 and prior set for June
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Alumni Association is inviting
UI classes 1961,1956, 1951 and prior to its Alumni Reunion Weekend 2001 themed
"Making Your Memories Reel" from June 7-10 at the UI campus.
Throughout the Reunion Weekend a variety of programs and activities will
be offered including tours of the campus, the Old Capitol, the Museum of Art
and Hancher Auditorium, as well as hands-on workshops and faculty lectures
as part of Alumni College 2001. Lectures will be given on exercise and aging,
special collections in the UI Library, book conservation and more.
Another highlight of the weekend will be the All-Class Banquet on Friday
evening honoring the alumni, with comments from UI President Mary Sue Coleman.
Following the banquet, coffee, dessert and cocktails will be served in the
Alumni Café at the Richey Ballroom of the IMU.
The Reunion Weekend also will offer alumni a chance to visit the Herbert
Hoover Birthplace and National Historic Site in West Branch on Friday, June
8 and get a preview of the Iowa Voyagers travel destinations for 2002. Other
special events include the Liberal Arts Alumni and Faculty Golf Outing on
June 8 at the Finkbine Golf Course, and the Alumni Luncheon and Awards Ceremony
on Saturday, June 9, honoring the 2001 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.
The weekend will come to a close Sunday, June 10 with a farewell breakfast
and a showing of the "Reunion Recap," which will contain a highlight
of photos taken from the weekend's activities.
The UI Colleges of Business, Liberal Arts, Engineering, Law, Education,
Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy are also sponsoring alumni dinners and activities
throughout the weekend.
The registration deadline for Alumni Reunion Weekend is Thursday, May 24.
