UI student is finalist in website competition
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa student Brandon Miller is a finalist
in the ThinkQuest Internet Challenge March 17-19 at CERN, the European Laboratory
for Particle Physics, in Geneva, Switzerland.
ThinkQuest is a non-profit organization that matches students from across
the world to design educational websites. Miller and two Minnesota high school
students developed a website called Dinosaur Treks and were selected finalists
from an international pool of more than 6,800 students from 85 countries.
Only 70 students were chosen as finalists in 2000's Internet Challenge.
"Participating in ThinkQuest and being chosen as a finalist in this
competition has truly been an exciting and rewarding experience. There are
very few opportunities like ThinkQuest, which allow multi-talented teenagers
from every continent to create team projects that can be viewed by anyone
around the world. Going to Switzerland for the awards ceremony is certainly
a wonderful perk as well," Miller said.
Miller of Clarion, Iowa, is a sophomore in the Henry B. Tippie College of
Business majoring in accounting and management information sciences.
ThinkQuest teams work for more than eight months to gather data, conduct
research, and learn about the Internet as an educational medium as they build
educationally rich sites. Upon completion, the student-created entries become
a permanent part of the ThinkQuest Library, which is made freely available
to teachers, students, and Internet users across the world. Miller's site
is in the ThinkQuest Library at http://library.thinkquest.org/C005824/
