Kienzle appointed to AAMC editorial board
Michael G. Kienzle, M.D., associate dean for clinical
affairs and biomedical communications in the University of Iowa College of
Medicine, was appointed to a newly configured editorial board of Academic
Medicine, the journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
As a member of the editorial board, Kienzle's responsibilities will include
advising the editor on long and short-term planning for the journal and assisting
the editor in acquiring unique articles of interest and importance to academic
Kienzle, an Iowa City native, earned his bachelor's and
medical degrees from the UI. He completed his residency and fellowship at
the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
In 1984 Kienzle returned to his alma mater as an associate
in cardiology. Kienzle holds the position of professor in the UI department
of internal medicine and the UI College of Nursing in addition to his role
as associate dean.
Kienzle is also known for his dedication in making the
UI an international leader in telemedicine -- the use of telecommunication
to transmit medical information to help health professionals diagnose and
treat patients. Telemedicine efforts at the UI include the provision of videoconsultation
services to children with special needs and chronic disease management in
University of Iowa Health Care describes the partnership
between the UI College of Medicine and the UI Hospitals and Clinics and the
patient care, medical education and research programs and services they provide.
