UI offers weekend gifted education workshops via the ICN
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Center for Credit Programs is
offering two weekend workshops in gifted education via the Iowa Communication
Network (ICN) in March. These workshops, offered at ICN sites across the state,
are geared toward education professionals such as teachers, counselors, administrators,
and support staff.
The first workshop, "Administrative and Policy Issues in Gifted Education,"
focuses on the issues involved in the development and maintenance of gifted
programs in a school setting. These issues are particularly timely considering
the recent school improvements and changes in Iowa law. This workshop meets
from 3:30 to 7 p.m Friday, March 2 and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m Saturday, March
The second workshop, "Differentiated Curriculum for the Gifted,"
reviews program options for gifted students in grades K-12. The examined models
link students' abilities and needs with the appropriate curricula. Case studies
and school materials provide the applications. This course meets 3:30 to 7
p.m. Friday, March 30, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 31. The registration
deadline is March 9.
These workshops are scheduled to be offered at the following sites: Algona,
Belle Plaine, Bettendorf, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Council Bluffs, Creston,
Elkader, Fort Dodge, Gilbert, Johnston, Manson, Mason City, Monticello, Nevada,
Ottumwa, Sheldon, Sioux City and West Burlington.
Tuition is $122 per semester hour for undergraduates and $192 per semester
hour for graduates.
