University of Iowa announces spring enrollment figures

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Enrollment at the University of Iowa for the 2001 spring semester totals 26,611, a decrease of 345 students from the spring of 2000, according to the UI Office of the Registrar.

The Tippie College of Business and the College of Engineering showed the largest gains, with an increase of 62 students each from spring 2000 to spring 2001. Dentistry and the Tippie School of Management, the UI’s MBA program, also showed increases. The College of Liberal Arts showed a decrease of 275.

As usual, the enrollment for the spring semester is down from the fall of 2000. The decrease from the fall to spring for the 2000-2001 academic year is 1,700 (6 percent), slightly smaller than the 6.6 percent decrease between the spring and fall semesters of the 1999-2000 academic year. Spring enrollment is always less than that in the fall because of the number of students who graduate in December, said Registrar Jerald W. Dallam. The UI graduated 1,602 students in December 2000.
