UI students elected to IANS 2000-01 Board of Directors
IOWA CITY, Iowa Two University of Iowa College of Nursing students
were elected to the Iowa Association of Nursing Students (IANS) 2000-01 Board
of Directors at the IANS convention last October.
Charles Chang, a fourth-year student, was elected "Breakthrough to Nursing"
director, and Leah Shever, a third-year student, was elected treasurer.
Chang's leadership responsibilities in the UI College of Nursing include
recruiting at local high schools, working on establishing a mentoring program
for male and minority nursing students, and helping to develop a student leadership
course. His new role on the IANS board involves more outreach and recruitment
at the high school level, as well as communication and sharing of ideas with
other nursing education programs in Iowa.
Shever serves as co-treasurer of the UI chapter of the IANS. Her IANS duties
include creating a budget, paying bills, making deposits and seeing that the
association's income exceeds its expenditures.
IANS is a professional organization for students preparing for licensure
as registered nurses. IANS aims to encourage growth and development of nursing
students in Iowa, while also providing them educational and leadership opportunities.
