Cedar Rapids RoughRiders jersey auction will support Children's Miracle
CITY, Iowa -- Hockey fans can purchase a unique souvenir next February when
the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will literally give the shirts off their backs
to support the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) and help patients at the Children's
Hospital of Iowa.
The RoughRiders wore special jerseys on Nov. 23 and Dec. 9 adorned with the
logos of CMN and Hy-Vee, a major CMN supporter, which donated costs of providing
the jerseys. The players will wear the jerseys again on Jan. 4 and Feb. 23.
After the game on Feb. 23, the jerseys will be auctioned with all proceeds
to benefit CMN. The minimum bid for each jersey will be $100.
Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of the Children's Hospital of
Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach
clinics across the state. One hundred percent of all donations to CMN remain
in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than
100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.
The Childrens Miracle Network (CMN) is the nation's largest charitable
organization. All of the funds raised stay in the area to benefit the local
children's hospital. Money donated to CMN is used to enhance the quality of
patients' hospital stays, support research and purchase sophisticated pediatric
health care equipment. In 2000, the Children's Hospital of Iowa received almost
$1.9 million from CMN.
