Spiess named director of UI Health Care Palliative Care Service

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jeffrey Spiess, M.D., University of Iowa associate professor of internal medicine, was recently named director of the UI Health Care Palliative Care Service. This service was established in 1999.

"I am very excited about this opportunity to improve and expand services available for persons at the end of life, as well as to educate physicians in training in this vital aspect of medical care," Spiess said.

Spiess received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed his residency at the Medical College of Ohio and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was director of the cancer program at the Wooster Community Hospital and co-medical director of the Hospice of Wayne County in Ohio.

Spiess is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, hematology, and hospice and palliative care medicine. He joined the faculty of the UI Department of Internal Medicine on April 1, 2001.
