Alamo Bowl button goes on sale next week
CITY, Iowa -- Buttons commemorating the University of Iowa football team's
upcoming trip to the Alamo Bowl are expected to go on sale early next week
at retail stores across the state.
On Saturday, Dec. 29 the Hawkeyes will meet the Texas
Tech Red Raiders in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. The bowl game marks
the Hawkeyes' 15th post-season appearance in the past 20 years
and the first under third-year head coach Kirk Ferentz. The
Official Bowl Button sells for $3.
University of Iowa artist Jerold Best, manager of
the Audiovisual Center Graphics Unit and originator of the Official Bowl Button
concept, designed this year's button. The 3 1/2-inch metal button features
wave-like "Iowa Hawkeyes" lettering in metallic gold, a glossy three-dimensional
UI tiger hawk and the official Alamo Bowl logo. The game date and opponent
are also imprinted on the button, enhancing its value as a collector's item.
The button will be available in the Iowa City/Coralville
area at Iowa Book and Supply, the Iowa Memorial Union Bookstore, Paul's Discount,
J.C. Penney, Walgreen's, the University Hospital Gift Shop and the Hawk Shop,
as well as other retail outlets throughout Iowa.
