Food and fashion combine at International Women's Club meeting May 1
International food and fashion will be the featured events at an International
Women's Club (IWC) General Meeting and Potluck Tuesday, May 1 at the First
Mennonite Church, 405 Myrtle Avenue in Iowa City. The potluck begins at 6:30
p.m. with clothing demonstrations following the meal.
People interested in meeting women and their families from around the world
are invited to attend this family event. Those attending are asked to bring
a dish to share. IWC members will bring traditional clothing with them and
either talk about the attire or demonstrate how they are worn. Tomoko Chihara
will model a kimono, and Papri Chatterjee will give a sari wrapping demonstration.
The IWC has been active for more than 35 years and promotes itself as "a
club for women from the U.S. and around the world." Currently there are
135 members from a variety of countries including Japan, Korea, China, Argentina,
Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Thailand and Taiwan. About 27 of the current
members are American. For more information about IWC, contact Joanne Madsen,
351-2595 or Jessica Lee, 351-3132.
