'Alumni at Last' celebration offer one-stop services for graduates
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Graduating students not only can buy caps and gowns at
the "Alumni at Last" celebration Monday, April 23 at the Iowa Memorial
Union, but can take advantage of many other services to prepare for commencement
"Alumni at Last," sponsored by the University of Iowa Alumni Association
(UIAA) in cooperation with University of Iowa Book Store (UIBS), will be from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the East lobby of the IMU.
The commencement unit of the UI Registrar's Office will be there to answer
questions about specifics of commencement ceremonies, and offer tips on what
to wear, and provide times of the 10 graduation ceremonies across the university.
The UI Business and Liberal Arts Placement Office (BLAPO) and Career Development
Services will also be there to answer any last minute questions about job
placement and interviewing.
The UIBS will be the outlet selling caps and gowns, along with rings, diploma
frames and class rings.
In addition to those services, Jostens will take senior pictures and Graduate
Admissions will also be at the event to answer last minute questions.
The first 500 seniors through the door will receive their tassel free and
a free gift from the UIAA. The UIAA will also be offering Alumni Association
memberships at a discount price and information on Alumni Career Services,
volunteer opportunities and Iowa Clubs located across the United States.
Although invitations have been sent to more than 3,000 students, any student
who is graduating is welcome to attend.
