Make-A-Wish children to attend Iowa vs. Western Michigan football game
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- On Saturday, Sept. 9, some 25 Eastern Iowa Children in
the Make-A-Wish program will enjoy an exciting weekend of University of Iowa
football. The University of Iowa Alumni Association's Student Alumni Ambassadors
will be sponsoring the annual Make-A-Wish Gameday event at this year's Iowa
vs. Western Michigan football game.
The day will begin at approximately 11 a.m. with a tailgate at the north
end of the UI Recreation Building. The children and their families will have
a chance to meet Herky, members of the cheerleading squad and dance team,
and some of the football players and coaching staff. They will also enjoy
good food, listen to music by the Hawkeye marching band, and receive prizes
and gifts compliments of area businesses.
The Gameday, now in its sixth year, is organized by the UIAA Student Alumni
Ambassadors, who work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to provide children
with the chance to see an Iowa football game and meet the coaches and players.
"We have put so much time and energy into getting everything prepared
for the Gameday, but as soon as we see the children walk through the door
with their glowing faces, it will suddenly all be worthwhile," said Amber
Lichti, Student Alumni Ambassadors' co-chairperson for the event.
Gameday has been recognized as a Program of the Year by the District V Association
of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP), which is a program for the Council
for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) that seeks to promote the
