MEDIA ADVISORY: National Pharmacy Week at UI College of Pharmacy
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- As part of National Pharmacy Week, University of Iowa
College of Pharmacy students will take part in events to emphasize the role
of pharmacists in health care. The theme for this week is "Educate Before
You Medicate Knowledge is the Best Medicine Talk to Your Pharmacist."
Included among the activities:
-- From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, pharmacy class officers
will distribute red ribbons outside the Pharmacy Building. The students plan
to help raise awareness about drug, alcohol and tobacco use and prevention.
Ryan Flugge, class president of the fourth-year pharmacy students, is coordinating
the effort.
-- All week, pharmacy students, faculty and staff will collect non-prescription
medications and other "over-the-counter" products for the Crisis
Center in Iowa City. UI members of the Student National Pharmacy Association
(SNPhA) and the Pharmacy Student Ambassadors Network will collect the daily
contributions in Room 127 of the Pharmacy Building and store them in Room
115. Jason Egge, the student chairperson for the project, will be available
Thursday, Oct. 26, to explain the project.
