UI Alumni Association hosts Family Weekend Oct 20-22
IOWA CITY, Iowa --The University of Iowa Alumni Association will host Family
Weekend 2000, "Black and Gold, Young and Old," Oct. 20-22 for parents
of UI students.
About 1,500 parents, students and family members will participate in a variety
of events starting Friday, Oct. 20 with tours of the Richard O. Jacobson Athletic
Building, Carver-Hawkeye Arena, UI Hospitals and Clinics, the Daily Iowan,
the Old Capitol Building and other campus buildings.
"Students make a tough decision when they go away to college and Family
Weekend is a way for parents to get involved and to come and see the campus,"
said Family Weekend Student Chair Meghan O'Malley.
Also on Friday, families can enjoy a documentary film about legendary wrestler
and former UI wrestling coach Dan Gable. The film will be shown at 7 p.m.
in Macbride Auditorium.
On Saturday, Oct. 21, a tailgate party will be held at the Hawkeye Village
(next to the baseball field) at 8 a.m. to get parents and families ready for
the 11:10 a.m. Hawkeye game against Ohio State at Kinnick Stadium.
A Family Fun Night will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial
Union. Family Weekend attendees can participate in entertainment events, games
and an auction with prizes and Hawkeye memorabilia.
Family Weekend will end with a farewell brunch at the Radisson Highlander
Inn in Iowa City at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22. UI President Mary Sue Coleman
will be the featured guest.
