Homecoming parade route is announced

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Several streets in downtown Iowa City will be closed Friday, Oct. 6 and one Iowa City Transit downtown bus route will be halted to allow for the University of Iowa Homecoming 2000 parade, which begins at 6:15 p.m. Friday. Automobiles parked at these locations along the closed streets will be towed after the following times:

Noon. -- Clinton Street and Washington Street. Towing will begin at 12:30 p.m.

1:30 p.m. -- Gilbert Street and Iowa Street intersection; Dubuque and Iowa Street intersection. Towing begins at 2 p.m.

3:30 p.m. -- Dubuque, Iowa, Clinton, and Bloomington Street intersections. Towing begins
at 4 p.m.

4 p.m. -- Parade route (begins and heads west at Gilbert and Iowa Streets; north on Dubuque to Bloomington Streets; west on Bloomington to Clinton Street; south from Clinton to Washington Street; ending at Washington and Gilbert Streets.)

4:30 p.m. -- Washington and Clinton Street intersection. Towing begins at 5 p.m.

5:15 p.m. -- The Iowa City Transit Department will end passenger pickup along the Clinton Street route.

6 p.m. -- Gilbert, Burlington and Jefferson Street intersections.

9 p.m. -- Iowa Avenue, westbound to allow for fireworks display.

Handicapped and special needs persons will find designated parking on Iowa, Linn and Clinton streets.
