Mapel honored as Outstanding Nurse Practitioner of the Year
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Janet Mapel, a pediatric nurse practitioner at University
Hospital School, was named "Outstanding Nurse Practitioner of the Year"
by the Iowa Association of Nurse Practitioners (IANP) at their spring conference
in Des Moines May 5.
Mapel, a graduate of the UI College of Nursing, became certified as a pediatric
nurse practitioner through the college in 1972. She has worked at University
Hospital School since 1976, providing services to persons with disabilities
and their families. Award recipients are nominated by their peers in recognition
of outstanding achievement in promoting the role of the nurse practitioner.
The IANP was established in 1975 and is designed to assist the nurse practitioner
in improving and optimizing the quality of health care delivered to all clients.
The IANP believes professional growth is essential for maintaining competent
practice; the association provides continuing education programs, works toward
certification of nurse practitioners, and facilitates and supports legislation
as it relates to nurse practitioners.
