Iowa City resident named president of National I-Club
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Gary Hughes of Iowa City has been named 2000-2001 president
of the National I-Club, the University of Iowa Foundation's fundraising organization
for annual contributors to men's and women's athletics.
Hughes, a member of the Johnson County I-Club Board, past recipient of the
Hawk of the Year Award and longtime Hawkeye supporter, has served on the National
I-Club Board since 1986.
Other 2000-2001 I-Club officers are Nolden I. Gentry of Des Moines, first
L. Wayne Wood of Davenport, second vice president; and Darold Sindt of Keystone,
third vice president. Kevin Krause of Davenport was named to the executive
committee. Barry Crist of West Des Moines is past president.
John Alt of Minneapolis and Phil Tyler of Creston were elected as new members
of the I-Club board at the group's June meeting.
The I-Club has more than 11,000 members representing nearly every state
in the nation. Hawkeye fans who contribute $40 or more annually to UI men's
and/or women's athletic programs are members of the I-Club. Gifts are made
through the UI Foundation, the preferred channel of support for private contributions
to all areas of the University of Iowa. Foundation staff work with alumni
and friends to generate funds for scholarships, professorships, facilities
improvements, equipment purchases, research and other UI initiatives.
