Davies is named new director of International Programs

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Diana Davies has joined University of Iowa International Programs as its new director, effective July 24. In this role, Davies is responsible for planning, staffing and directing all administrative activities and operations of UI International Programs. She will also serve as a liaison and consultant to faculty, administrators, external institutions and organizations.

Davies brings a rich array of education and experiences to her new position. She earned her Ph.D. in comparative literature at the University of Rochester in New York in 1995. She most recently has worked as assistant director of International Education at Binghamton University in New York. She also has worked as coordinator of the International Studies Certificate Program, the director of the Languages Across the Curriculum Program (LxC) and as an adjunct instructor in Russian, all at Binghamton University. Davies has also participated in study abroad and exchange programs in Russia/USSR in 1996, 1990, 1989 and 1985.

Steven Hoch, associate provost and dean of International Programs, said that he is pleased to have Davies on board and that she will make substantial contributions to strengthening the administrative structure of International Programs.

"Diana brings a wonderful blend of experiences to International Programs as both an academic and an administrator," Hoch said. "This combination of experiences will have a very positive impact on International Programs and the services we provide to faculty and students at the University of Iowa as well as to the public."

Davies said she looks forward to the challenges and opportunities her new position provides. "I hope to continue the tradition of excellent service to University of Iowa students and scholars and to help make International Programs an even more welcoming place for everyone it serves," she said.

UI International Programs consist of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost and dean of international programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and the community and promote global scholarship, teaching, and research.
