UI to cosponsor three school violence seminars in April
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa is co-sponsoring several two-day
seminars across Iowa in April that will show educators, law enforcement officers,
social service professionals and court officials how to assess and deal with
the risks of school violence.
"Making our Schools Safe Against Violence: A Proactive Seminar"
will be offered at three locations on three dates: April 10-11 in Storm Lake,
April 12-13 in Des Moines and April 17-18 in Davenport.
The seminars are designed to bring together various professionals involved
with youth and education to discuss strategies for dealing with violent or
potentially violent juveniles. Discussion topics will include violence warning
signs, gangs, gender differences, truancy, school security and conflict resolution.
The Koch Crime Institute of Topeka, Kan. (www.kci.org)
developed the seminar, which is being sponsored by the Iowa Institute of School
Executives in the UI College of Education in cooperation with the Iowa Area
Registration costs $195 and will be accepted up to the day of the seminar
on a space-available basis. Continuing education credit may be available.
