UI mathematics professor Han receives James Van Allen Fellowship
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa mathematics Professor Weimin Han has
received the 2000 James Van Allen Natural Sciences Fellowship.
With the $15,000 award, Han will continue research on a posteriori analysis
for modeling errors in engineering problems and a posteriori error analysis
for numerical solutions of nonlinear boundary value problems arising in mechanics.
The fellowship is one of two faculty awards given in alternate years by
the university and exists to encourage and support work done in the areas
of physical, natural and mathematical sciences. The money can be used for
various incurred costs, including summer research, visiting lecturer reimbursement,
graduate research assistant appointments, supplies, equipment and travel.
