University of Iowa announces spring enrollment figures

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Enrollment at the University of Iowa for the 2000 spring semester totals 26,956, an increase of 81 students from the spring of 1999, according to the UI Office of the Registrar.

The Tippie College of Business showed the largest gain, with an increase of 119 undergraduate students from spring 1999 to spring 2000. Dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy and the Tippie School of Management, the UI's MBA program, also showed increases.

As usual, the enrollment for the spring semester is down from the fall of 1999. The decrease from the fall to spring for the 1999-2000 academic year is 1,890 (6.6 percent), similar to the 6.3 percent decrease between the spring and fall semesters of the 1998-99 academic year. Spring enrollment is always less than that in the fall because of the number of students who graduate in December, said Registrar Jerald W. Dallam. The UI graduated 1,400 students in December 1999.
