UI hosts Summer Employment Fair Feb. 15
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will host the annual Summer Job/Internship
Fair Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa
There will be more than 125 local, regional, and national employers at the
fair offering numerous employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities.
Employers attending will represent human services, business, and technology
fields. The UI Career Development Services web site at http://www.uiowa.edu/~careers
has a complete listing of employers.
The event is sponsored by Career Development Services, Student Financial
Aid, Student Disability Services, Support Service Programs, the Academic Advising
Center, Liberal Arts Academic Programs and the Tippie College of Business
Undergraduate Programs Office.
The fair will offer students a chance to talk with employers about summer
employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities. Students attending the
fair seek summer employment for various reasons. Typically, students want
to explore different professions that will help them decide their future career
goals. Students also seek summer employment to acquire professional experience
in their chosen career field. Finally, some students utilize summer employment
to help pay for educational expenses. Regardless of students' employment goals,
this fair will provide a vehicle for students to network with employers nationwide.
Students are encouraged to dress in business casual attire to present themselves
in a professional manner when job searching. Although resumes are not required,
students can bring them, especially if they are looking for specific professional
To help students prepare for this event, there will be two workshops entitled
"Getting Ready for the Summer Job/Internship Fair" in the Kirkwood
Room of the Iowa Memorial Union (Room 257) on Thursday, Feb. 10 and Monday,
Feb. 14; both workshops will begin at 4:30 p.m.
On the morning of the fair, there will be a Multicultural Reception from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the North Room of the Iowa Memorial Union. The featured
event will be an interactive student/employer panel discussion focusing on
the question "What is the best way for your company to address the needs
and concerns of students with disabilities seeking internships/employment?"
This is another opportunity for students and employers to network. For further

Students can serve as volunteers for the fair. This will give them increased
exposure to employers, enhance their resumes, and they will be eligible to
