International Women's Club hosts seasonal party Dec. 9

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Women and children from around the world will have an opportunity to learn more about holiday traditions in the United States during the International Women's Club (IWC) Seasonal Party Saturday, Dec. 9 from 2-4 p.m. in the University of Iowa International Center Lounge.

During the event IWC members and their families will decorate a Christmas tree, participate in craft activities, and visit with Santa Claus. Refreshments will be served.

The IWC has been active for more than 35 years and promotes itself as "A club for women from the U.S. and around the world." Currently there are 135 members from a variety of countries including Japan, Korea, China, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Thailand and Taiwan. About 27 of the current members are American. In addition to providing a forum for the sharing of culture and experiences, the IWC also has a number of interest groups for members, including coffee, cooking and craft groups. Also, there are activities held throughout the year like the Halloween party, holiday party, Valentine's party and field trips in which members and their families can take part. For more information about IWC, contact Joanne Madsen, 351-2595 or Jessica Lee, 351-3132.

The IWC is affiliated with the Office of International Students and Scholars at the University of Iowa. OISS is part of UI International Programs, which consists of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost and dean for International Programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.

Reporters, photographers and videographers are welcome. The International Center is located at the end of Ferson Avenue off of Park Road, in Iowa City.
