UI mail system director receives national award
IOWA CITY, Iowa Louis R. Eichler, director of the central mail system
at the University of Iowa recently received the Industry Excellence Award
for colleges and universities from the U.S. Postal Service. The award was
presented during the March 20 National Postal Forum held in Nashville, Tenn.
The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated particular leadership
and influence within the mailing industry. Eichler was cited for the award,
in part, for his work in helping establish and lead a task force to create
a mail guide as a tool for assisting managers of complex college and university
mail operations. The guide was formally introduced at the National Postal
Forum and is being mailed free of charge to all U.S. colleges and universities.
Eichler, a UI employee since 1982 and director of the central mail system
since 1993, says that keeping up with the effects of new technology on mail
distribution continues to be one of the biggest challenges in his field.
