Iowa Shares sets 1999 University of Iowa campaign goal
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa employees again
have the opportunity to support 17 Iowa human service and social justice organizations
through the annual Iowa Shares payroll deduction campaign now underway on
the UI campus. Iowa Shares, an umbrella group that raises funds for non-profit
groups across Iowa, is seeking to raise $20,000 in its university campaign
to help the agencies.
David Leshtz, a program associate at University Hospital
School and an Iowa Shares contributor, said, "This is the easiest way I know
to support the causes I believe in." In 1998, statewide workplace giving to
Iowa Shares topped $79,000, lending significant financial support to the programs
that depend on these contributions.
As with other campaigns, UI employees may contribute
by payroll deduction or by check directly to Iowa Shares. These gifts qualify
for itemized tax deductions. UI employees recently received a packet in campus
mail from Iowa Shares with forms to complete and return. Contributors may
designate gifts to a specific agency or make a gift with the donations divided
between the 17 groups.
Iowa Shares member groups in Johnson County include
the UI Women's Resource and Action Center, Environmental Advocates and the
Iowa Renewable Energy Association. A complete list of the member groups is
included in the packets that UI employees received. To receive another packet,
or for additional information about Iowa Shares, call Monique DiCarlo at (319)
335-1486 or Del Holland at (319) 338-5220.
