Workshop on planned giving to be held Sept. 23 in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A workshop to learn how planned gifts can create social change for future generations is the focus of the first "1999-2000 Women and Money Series" workshop.

The University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) and the Iowa Women's Foundation (IWF) will present "Creating a Legacy: Wills, Trusts, and Planned Giving," on from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 in the Kirkwood Room of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Women of all incomes are invited to attend to learn more about how to create their legacy, including the impact of proper estate planning and options for planned giving.

Janet R. Beal, a certified financial planner, of Retirement Planning Associates in Cedar Rapids, will be the workshop presenter. Beal has more than 15 years of experience in estate planning including conducting many estate-planning educational seminars. She is an active member of the Cedar Rapids Estate Planning Council and a member of the Eastern Iowa International Association of Financial Planners board.

Creating a financial legacy has become an important method for women to ensure that their financial security, influence and values extend beyond their lifetime. The workshop will offer an overview of the basic concepts in estate planning and estate tax information. A review of changes in current federal estate tax laws will also be addressed. Beal will offer a free, one hour consultation to workshop participants, who are encouraged to come with questions.

The "Women and Money: Putting the Pieces Together" workshops are supported in part by the Johnson County Area Women's Network and the Altrusa Club of Iowa City. Sponsors are the IWF and WRAC. Pre-registration is necessary, as seating is limited. To register for the workshop, please call the Iowa Women's Foundation at (319) 337-4222 or e-mail at iwf@avalon.
