UI College of Liberal Arts to seek advice, guidance
from alumni advisory board
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College
of Liberal Arts Dean's Advisory Board will meet for the first time Friday,
Sept. 17. The group, which includes 20 alumni and friends of the College of
Liberal Arts, will use its first meeting to set goals and to discuss how the
board can best serve the college.
Linda Maxson, dean of the College of Liberal Arts,
said that having an advisory board in place will allow her to communicate
with leaders outside the college about how to meet the challenges of preparing
students for lifelong learning and contributions to their professions and

Sue P. Beckwith, of Waukee, a surgeon who earned
a B.S. in psychology at the UI in 1980 and also earned an M.D. from the UI
College of Medicine in 1984
Kay Braverman, of Iowa City, who earned an M.A.
in music from the UI in 1969 and performed and taught piano for 20 years before
turning to her present career as a Realtor with Lepic Kroeger Realtors in
Marion L. Elmquist, of Des Moines, who earned a
B.A. in journalism and mass communication from the UI in 1972 and is now the
C.E.O. for IRIS Inc.
Kay F. Kramer, of West Des Moines, who, in 1958,
earned a B.A. in music and, in 1965, earned an M.A. in education from the
UI and is now director of government and public relations at IFMC
Thomas R. Pospisil, of Des Moines, who earned a
B.A. in American history from the UI in 1982 and is now counsel and senior
officer at The Principal Financial Group
Virginia Stafford, of Ames, who earned a B.A. in
communication and theater arts from the UI in 1948 and is now retired
Beth Holden Stence, of Des Moines, who earned a
B.A. in English from the UI in 1977 and has worked for AT&T in Des Moines
for 20 years
Nickolas J. Rhodes, of Manhattan Beach, who earned
a B.A. in communication and theater arts from the UI in 1987 and is now senior
vice president of development at Cable Network Services, Los Angeles/New York
Jennifer L. Taylor, of Englewood, who earned
a B.A. in communication studies at the UI in 1991 and now works in marketing
communications at Advanced Digital Information Corp.
John E. Osborn, of Greenville, who earned a
B.A. in economics and history from the UI in 1979 and is now senior vice president
and general counsel for Cephalon Inc.
Priscilla Ann Mabie Stewart, of Bradenton, who
earned a B.A. in art history from the UI in 1948 and is now a professor of
art history and photography at Manatee Community College in Florida
Rosalyn B. Green, of Chicago, who earned a
B.A. in social work in 1974, an M.S.W. in 1975 and a Ph.D. in education in
1982, all from the UI and is now associate provost and executive director
of urban health programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago
Barbara Hogg of Kenilworth, who earned a B.A.
in mathematical sciences and economics in 1992 from the UI and is now human
resources consultant and principal at Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire
Charles W. Lanham, of Lisle, who earned a B.A.
in political science from the UI in 1961 and was director of human resources
and management services at Zurich American Insurance Companies when he retired
earlier this year
Leon L. Langlitz, of Overland Park, who earned
an M.S. in statistics and actuarial science from the UI in 1982 and is now
vice president and principal of Lewis & Ellis, Inc. Actuaries and
Patsy A. Randell, of Minneapolis, who earned a
B.A. in journalism and mass communication from the UI in 1968 and is now vice
president for corporate diversity at Honeywell, Inc.
Brian D. Strayer, of Minneapolis, who earned an
M.S. in physics and M.B.A. from the UI in 1981 and is now core team leader
at Seagate Technology
Jeff Grisamore, of Bernardsville, who earned a
B.A. in political science from the UI in 1981 and now is president and owner
of EGR International, a performance improvement company
S. H. Bromberger, of Houston, who earned an M.S.
and Ph.D. in geology from the UI in 1965 and 1968, respectively, and worked
for Texaco and J.M. Huber Corporation until his retirement in 1990
Andrea Gullickson, of Oshkosh, who earned a D.M.A.
in oboe performance from the UI in 1993 and is now an associate professor
of music at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
Rodman P. Hise, of Madison, who earned a B.A. in
communication studies from the UI in 1988 and is now executive director of
the Republican Party of Wisconsin
