Make-A-Wish children to attend Iowa vs. Northern Illinois
football game Sept. 18
IOWA CITY, Iowa A group of approximately 15
eastern Iowa children in the Make-A-Wish program will have the chance to enjoy
an exciting University of Iowa football weekend on Saturday, Sept. 18, as
part of the University of Iowa Alumni Association's (UIAA) Student Alumni
Ambassadors' Gameday event at the Iowa vs. Northern Illinois football game.
The day will begin at approximately 2 p.m. with a
tailgate at the UI Recreation Building. The children and their families will
have the chance to meet Herky, members of the cheerleading squad and dance
team, UI Basketball Coach Steve Alford, and members of the UI basketball team.
They will also enjoy good food, listen to music by the Hawkeye Marching Band,
participate in games provided by the Disney Store, and receive prizes and
gifts compliments of area businesses.
The Gameday, now in its fifth year, is organized by
the UIAA Student Alumni Ambassadors, who work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation
to provide children the chance to see an Iowa football game and to meet coaches
"I anticipate an exciting day, with the kids meeting
Coach Alford and the basketball players, cheerleaders, Herky, and attending
the football game. Volunteers not only get to take part in the festivities,
but they also benefit from the delight the kids will bring to this day," said
Carolyn Carr, Student Alumni Ambassadors co-chairperson for the event.
Gameday has been recognized as a Program of the Year
by the District V Student Alumni Association/Student Foundation (SAA/SF) network,
which is a program for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education
(CASE) that seeks to promote the involvement of students in alumni relations,
communications, and philanthropy.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a national, non-profit
organization dedicated to providing activities for terminally and severely
ill children and their families.

The event will not be open to the general public.
