UI Cancer Center, American Cancer Society to host conference
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Cancer Center
and the American Cancer Society will present the Sixth Annual Psychosocial
Oncology Conference Friday, Oct. 29 at the City Plaza Hotel in downtown Iowa
The multidisciplinary conference is for social workers,
nurses, home care specialists and other health care professionals who work
with individuals facing cancer. The theme of the symposium, "Refreshing
the Spirit," is aimed at giving participants a renewed perspective on
their approach to health care and how to continue growing as professionals
Two national keynote speakers, Dale Larson, Ph.D.,
and G. Neil Karn, will give presentations about new ways to rejuvenate the
spirit of oncology health care professionals. Other topics include stress
management techniques and adapting to a changing medical environment.
"We need to pay attention to all aspects of patient
care, including the mind-body connection," said Joy Sutter, a social
work specialist at the UI Hospitals and Clinics, "This conference is
a good way to give us, as health care providers, a look at the whole picture."
Registration for the conference is $50, which includes
lunch and processing fees. The program is approved for continuing education
credits through the UI Hospitals and Clinics department of nursing and department
of social service.
