Flu shots are available at UI Family Care Center, Coralville
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Family Care
Center, Coralville, an affiliate of UI Family Care, is offering influenza
vaccinations to all people served by the center.
Influenza is a highly contagious infectious disease
that may have a lethal outcome in people age 65 and older or having other
medical conditions. In the United States, more than 20,000 people die from
influenza each year.
Adelaide Gurwell, M.D.; Mary Larew, M.D.; Janet Clark,
M.D.; and Michael Maharry, M.D.; from UI Family Care Center, Coralville, urge
all people in the area who have no contraindications to the influenza vaccine
to call now and make an appointment for a shot.
Flu shots are particularly needed for:
65 years of age and over
--Children and adults with chronic medical conditions,
especially those with chronic disorders of the lungs and the heart, including
--Pregnant women in the second and third trimester
of pregnancy or who are at risk regardless of the stage of pregnancy
--Children and teenagers up to 18 years receiving
long-term aspirin therapy
--Health care workers
--Members of households with people at high risk
--People with HIV/AIDS
--People providing essential community services
