'Women and Body Image' discussion group to begin Oct. 19 at Women's Center

IOWA CITY, Iowa — A "Women and Body Image" support group will meet Tuesdays for six weeks beginning Oct. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center, across from the Iowa Memorial Union.

"The support group will explore the role of body image in society and help women feel better about themselves," says Keri Neblett, support group coordinator at the Women's Center. "Our society portrays the 'perfect' woman as thin, tall, able-bodied and free from blemishes. This image that we are expected to fit is pretty much unobtainable. Even photos and other images of supermodels are airbrushed or touched up to attain society's expectation of beauty," Neblett adds.

Please call the Women's Center at 335-1486 for more information or to arrange for accommodations and child care.
