National Award named for UI's Lou Eichler

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Lou Eichler, business manager of the University of Iowa's central mail system, has been honored with the creation of an award program in his name from the National Association of College and University Mail Services (NACUMS). Eichler became the first recipient for the award in ceremonies Sept. 29 at the National Postal Forum in Chicago.

The Lou Eichler Award for Excellence signifies exemplary service to the college and university mail industry. Dave Pitts, president of NACUMS, described Eichler as a leader in the mailing industry and said that "without Lou's generous gift to the industry of CUNIMAIL the national organization may have never been formed." CUNIMAIL is a networking e-mail service designed by Eichler to help University Mail Managers communicate about industry issues such as federal regulations, postal rates, and technological developments and solutions.

Eichler has been the UI central mail system manager at Iowa since July, 1993. He is vice president of NACUMS and a member of the national Mailers Technical Advisory Committee.
