UI Alumni Association hosts Parents Weekend

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Parents of University of Iowa students will gather on campus Nov. 5-7 for the UI Alumni Association’s Parents Weekend.

More than 1,200 parents, students, and family members will attend a variety of activities starting on Friday, Nov. 5 with tours of the Richard O. Jacobsen Athletic Building, Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Levitt Center for University Advancement, UI Hospitals and Clinics, and other campus buildings.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, the Office of Student Life and the Iowa Memorial Union Programming Board will sponsor a free movie and an improv comedy show at the Iowa Memorial Union for friends and family members of all ages. The Office of Admissions will also conduct campus tours and information sessions for prospective students on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, parents and families can enjoy a tailgate party at the Recreation Building at 10 a.m. before they cheer on the Hawkeyes during the 1:05 p.m. football game against Illinois at Kinnick Stadium.

A theater excursion to "My Name Will Always Be Alice" at the Riverside Theatre is planned, with special ticket prices for those with college identification on Friday and Saturday evenings and a Sunday matinee.

The weekend will culminate with a farewell brunch at the Radisson Hotel in Iowa City from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7. UI President Mary Sue Coleman will be the featured guest.

The Student Alumni Ambassadors who organized the weekend’s activities are Melissa Skrentner, a senior German and foreign language education major from Edina, Minn., and Anne Wilder, a senior communications major from St. Louis, Mo.
