UI hosts Youth Entrepreneur Camp
IOWA CITY, Iowa The University of Iowa is hosting
the New Youth Entrepreneurship Camp this summer for youth who want to learn
about starting their own businesses.
The camp will be held at the John Pappajohn Business
Building from July 12-16 for Cedar Rapids area students and from July 19-23
for Iowa City area students. Students who have completed the fifth, sixth
or seventh grades may participate in the camp.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for youth to explore
entrepreneurship. The camp is designed to teach youth the basic entrepreneurial
skills and to help students develop a plan for starting their own business.
The students will hear from successful entrepreneurs and learn how they can
turn their ideas into businesses. They will also have a lot of fun during
the camp," stated David Hensley, associate director of the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial
The "user friendly" course materials are designed
specifically for youth, and have eye-catching illustrations, contain examples
to which young people can relate, and include activities to stimulate interest
in the various aspects of entrepreneurship.
Sponsored by the UI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial
Center, the New Youth Entrepreneurship Camp is also supported through the
Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
Registration for the camp is now under way; enrollment
is limited to 40 students per session. Cost for the weeklong day camp is only
$79 if students register before May 28. Applications are due by June 4. To
