Two UI dentistry professors receive NATO grant
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two University of Iowa College
of Dentistry faculty have received a grant to collaborate with researchers
from NATO countries in Eastern Europe.
Christopher Squier, Ph.D., D.Sc., professor, and Philip
Wertz, Ph.D., professor, will use the two-year, $15,000 NATO Collaborative
Linkage Grant to work with colleagues at universities in Hungary and Turkey.
The researchers will focus on the development of therapeutic
agents to treat mucositis, an inflammatory and ulcerative condition of the
oral mucosa that is a side effect of many anti-cancer therapies.
Both Squier and Wertz conduct research at the College's
Dows Institute for Dental Research. Squier also serves as associate dean for
research at the college.
