UI Museum of Natural History schedules March 6 Collectors' Day
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History
is inviting amateur collectors and hobbyists to participate in its second
annual Collectors' Day 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at Macbride Hall.
The program is held in recognition of the important contributions made
by amateur collectors in our understanding the natural history of Iowa
and the world. Collectors, hobbyists, amateur scientists and artists of
all ages are invited to exhibit their work or collections in the Museum
of Natural History and discuss their hobbies with visitors.
David Brenzel, program coordinator, says that Iowa has a tradition of
producing serious amateur collectors whose discoveries have enriched the
museum's collections. Activities associated with managing a collection
can promote important thinking skills in children and open a window to
a lifetime of nature enjoyment, Brenzel said.
Participation in the program is free and open to collectors or hobbyists
in any natural history-related field. For further information or to register
for the program, call David Brenzel, program coordinator, at 319-335-0482.
