Pizza Hut Express to open in IMU's Union Station
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Pizza Hut Express will be opening in Union Station
in the Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa after spring break.
The new service will open Monday, March 22.
The Pizza Hut Express, which is much like those now seen in many other
colleges and universities, will be located in the portion of Union Station
that currently sells pizza by the slice. It will offer four varieties of
Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizzas, a line of breakfast sandwiches called "Panwiches,"
and breadsticks. The number of products may be expanded at a later date.
The Pizza Hut Express will not be a franchise, but will be operated
by IMU employees under a licensing agreement between the IMU and Pizza
Hut. The licensing agreement is similar to one in which the IMU offers
Starbucks coffee at the Union Pantry, said Greg Black, manager of IMU Food
"We are opening the Pizza Hut Express in response to demand from
students, faculty and staff who were surveyed as part of a campus food
service master plan," said David Grady, director of University Life
Centers, which operates the IMU. "Many of the people we interviewed
expressed a strong desire for branded food products, especially pizza."
The same desire was expressed by students who participated last semester
in focus groups that discussed ways to update the services and programs
offered by the IMU, he noted.
At this time there are no plans to add other brands of fast food to
the IMU's services, Black said.
