IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A family from Wellman will receive some special "Gifts
from the Heart" just before Valentine's Day at the University of Iowa
Hospitals and Clinics.
Forty-nine-year-old Kathy Nupp of Wellman is currently a patient being
treated for lung cancer at the John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer
Center. Staff members learned that the Nupps' teenage children did not
ask for Christmas gifts in 1998 because of the family's financial situation.
The staff of the center decided to help make this Valentine's Day more
special for the Nupp family.
On Friday, Feb. 12, Kathy Nupp will return to the John and Mary Pappajohn
Clinical Cancer Center for an appointment at 10:30 a.m. Following her appointment,
Kathy and family will join her health care providers in the staff lounge,
where clinic staff members will present gifts and gift certificates to
the family. The staff is calling the project "Gifts from the Heart."
The John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center is located on the
fourth floor of the John Pappajohn Pavilion of the UIHC, across the hallway
from elevator I. If you want to arrange to cover this story, please contact
Tom Moore in the Joint Office for Planning, Marketing and Communications
at the UIHC at (319) 356-3945 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
