Fifth Annual UI Dance Marathon Feb. 5-6 at Iowa Memorial Union
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- On Feb. 5 and 6, approximately 700 students and 500
volunteers will take part in the University of Iowa's Fifth Annual Dance
Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy event in Iowa.
The Dance Marathon begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 and continues through
11p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Main Lounge at the Iowa Memorial Union at
The UI Dance Marathon is a student-run organization established in 1994
to aid the Children's Hospital of Iowa at the UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Dance Marathon works to bring financial support to families through special
projects served by the Pediatric Oncology Unit and to enhance the lives
of children facing cancer.
In its first four years of existence at the UI, Dance Marathon has raised
more than $425,000. Dance Marathon raises money through dancer pledges,
corporate sponsorships, and free will donations.
It is supported by the UI student government, plus groups from residence
halls, the Greek community, and student athletics. Graduate and undergraduate
students, as well as faculty and staff also participate with support from
thousands of donors.
