UI reschedules Collectors' Day for March 27, sets March 13 registration
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History
has rescheduled its Collectors' Day program for 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March
27 at Macbride Hall and set a March 13 registration deadline for participants
wishing to exhibit a collection.
Collectors, hobbyists, amateur scientists and artists of all ages are
invited to exhibit their collections or works in the museum and converse
with visitors about their hobbies.
Collector's Day is planned as a forum for area nature and natural history
enthusiasts to display their collections or hobbies and to introduce children
and adults to the pleasure of collecting and nature study. Program Coordinator
David Brenzel says that Iowa has a tradition of producing serious amateur
collectors whose discoveries have enriched the museum's collections and
scientists' understanding of the natural world. He notes that collecting
encourages important thinking skills in children and opens a window to
a lifetime of nature enjoyment.
Exhibiting a collection is free. Collectors or hobbyists in any natural
history-related field are welcome to participate. To register, or for
further information, call David Brenzel, program coordinator, at 335-0482.
