Altmaier named editor, associate editor of APA journals

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Betsy Altmaier, a professor in the University of Iowa College of Education's division of psychology and quantitative foundations, has been named to editorial positions at two of the American Psychological Association's (APA) journals.

A counseling psychologist who specializes in health psychology, Altmaier will begin a one-year term Jan. 1 as associate editor of the APA's Journal of Counseling Psychology. On the same day, Altmaier will also become incoming editor of the APA's Clinician's Research Digest and on Jan. 1, 2001, she will become editor of the Digest.

In both positions, Altmaier will work with other editors to evaluate manuscripts before sending them to editorial board members for review and determine what research is published in the respective journals.

The quarterly Journal of Counseling Psychology -- one of the APA's premiere journals -- publishes empirical research in the areas of counseling activities, career development, diversity and underrepresented populations in relation to counseling activities, the development of new measures to be used in counseling activities, and professional issues in counseling psychology. It also considers reviews or theoretical contributions that have the potential for stimulating further research in counseling psychology, and conceptual or empirical contributions about methodological issues in counseling psychology research.

Clinician's Research Digest is designed for psychology clinicians who don't have time to read all the journals publishing research of interest to them. The Digest editors review more than 50 journals each month and highlight the most relevant articles in a six-page, monthly newsletter.
