NPR radio host Linda Wertheimer will give free, public lecture Aug. 31 at UI

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- National Public Radio (NPR) host Linda Wertheimer kicks off the University of Iowa Lecture Series' lineup of guest speakers at a free and public lecture at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 at the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union.

The veteran radio news personality will discuss her experiences covering campaigns and elections, commenting on their impact on society, and society's involvement in the process.

Wertheimer has worked in radio broadcasting for more than 25 years, and the award-winning journalist has been a co-host on the NPR's popular "All Things Considered" newsmagazine program since 1989, reporting on various national political topics and presidential elections.

Wertheimer's visit is part of Weeks of Welcome! 99, a two-week welcoming program of events, lectures, and other festivities held for new and returning students to the UI. WOW! 99 is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and ends Sept. 4.

The UI's Lecture Series committee, the Offices of Leadership, Education and Development, Admissions, and Vice President for Student Services along with Department of Resident Services and Orientation Services are sponsoring the lecture.
